Montana De Luz started as a hospice for children of Honduras suffering from HIV/AIDS. It now serves as an orphanage for children surviving with AIDS and HIV. In 2012 my wife joined a service trip to MDL and her life was changed.
I had heard that there was a lot of singing at MDL and so being a musician I hatched a scheme to record the children of MDL. With the help of long-term volunteer Jarrett Piette we produced these recordings over three days in 2013
Some of these children have seen and experienced things no human should have to endure. The voices in these recordings are untrained and rough- but ring unmistakably with the love of light that pervades the atmosphere at MDL.
lyrics
Yo Solo Quiero (english translation follows below)
Yo sólo quiero mirar los campos
Yo sólo quiero cantar mi canto
Pero no quiero cantar solito
Yo quiero un coro de pajaritos
Quiero llevar este canto amigo
A Quien lo pudiera necesitar
Yo quiero tener un millón de amigos
Y así más fuerte poder cantar
Yo quiero tener un millón de amigos
Y así más fuerte poder cantar
Yo sólo quiero un viento fuerte
Llevar mi barco con rumbo norte
Y en el trayecto voy a pescar
Para dividir luego al arrivar
Quiero llevar este canto amigo
A quien lo pudiera necesitar
Yo quiero tener un millón de amigos
Y así más fuerte poder cantar
Yo quiero tener un millón de amigos
Y así más fuerte poder cantar
Yo quiero creer la paz del futuro
Quiero tener un hogar sin muro
Quiero a mi hijo pisando firme
Cantando alto, sonriendo libre
Quiero llevar este canto amigo
A quien lo pudiera necesitar
Yo quiero tener un millón de amigos
Y así más fuerte poder cantar
Yo quiero tener un millón de amigos
Y así más fuerte poder cantar
Yo quiero amor siempre en esta vida
Sentir calor de una mano amiga
Quiero a mi hermano sonrisa al viento
Verlo llorar pero de contento
Quiero llevar este canto amigo
A quien lo pudiera necesitar
Yo quiero tener un millón de amigos
Y así más fuerte poder cantar
Yo quiero tener un millón de amigos
Y así más fuerte poder cantar
Venga conmigo a ver los campos
Cante conmigo también mi canto
Pero no quiero cantar solito
Yo quiero un coro de pajaritos
Quiero llevar este canto amigo
A quien lo pudiera necesitar
Yo quiero tener un millón de amigos
Y así más fuerte poder cantar
Yo quiero tener un millón de amigos
Y así más fuerte poder cantar
Yo quiero tener un millón de amigos
Y así más fuerte poder cantar
Yo quiero tener un millón de amigos
Y así más fuerte poder cantar
Yo quiero tener un millón de amigos
Y así más fuerte poder canta
I just want to watch the fields
I just want to sing my song
But I don’t wish to sing alone
I want a chorus of birds
I want to take this song my friend
To whomever may need it most
I want to have a million friends
And so to sing all the louder
I want to have a million friends
And so to sing it all the louder
I just want a strong wind
Carrying my boat due north
And along the way I go fishing
To share where I arrive
I want to take this song my friend
To whomever may need it most
I want to have a million friends
And so to sing all the louder
I want to have a million friends
And so to sing it all the louder
I want to believe in future peace
I want to have a home without walls
I want my son on solid ground
Singing high, smiling free
I want to take this song my friend
To whomever may need it most
I want to have a million friends
And so to sing all the louder
I want to have a million friends
And so to sing it all the louder
I want to love forever in this life
Feel the warmth of a helping hand
I love my brother smile in the wind
Show mourn but happy
I want to take this song my friend
To whomever may need it most
I want to have a million friends
And so to sing all the louder
I want to have a million friends
And so to sing it all the louder
I want to have a million friends
And so to sing it all the louder
Come with me to see the fields
Sing with me too my song
But I will not sing alone
I want a chorus of birds
I want to have a million friends
And so to sing it all the louder
I want to have a million friends
And so to sing it all the louder
I want to have a million friends
And so to sing it all the louder
I want to have a million friends
And so to sing it all the louder
I want to have a million friends
And so to sing it all the louder
I want to have a million friends
And so to sing it all the louder
I want to have a million friends
And so to sing it all the louder
